The NHL playoffs are less than 3 weeks away. Authority Athletics will be starting a new series discussing our playoff previews and predictions.
Here is our first prediction. The Colorado Avalanche have a deep run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs with Justus Annunen replacing Alexandar Georgiev as the team’s starting goaltender.

Despite making an all-star appearance this season, Alexandar Georgiev has struggled with consistency. More concerning is his lack of emotional stability. Georgiev has on multiple occasions broken his stick over the net, hit his stick against the boards, and more recently shot a puck into the stands.
The Avalanche showed their faith in Annunen by not acquiring a veteran goaltender at the trade deadline. Annunen has played well in his time with the club posting a 2.26 GAA and .927 Save Percentage. It’s a small sample size but Annunen has looked the part. He is square to shooters, moves well side to side, and has shown solid rebound control.
Georgiev is undoubtedly the starter going into the playoffs. At some point though I believe he falters and is replaced by Annunen who proves he is capable of being a starter in the league.
