Jets/Avalanche Series Comes Down to Goaltending

I view both the Winnipeg Jets and Colorado Avalanche as teams who could go far in the playoffs. Unfortunately, with the current NHL Playoff format, one of these teams will be eliminated prior to the second round.

The Jets/Avalanche series will come down to just a few notable players, Connor Hellebuyck, Alexandar Georgiev, and Justus Annunen. The Avalanche were the highest scoring team in the NHL but they pulled quite possibly the worst matchup facing off against Hellebuyck.

In terms of goalies, there is Hellebuyck and everybody else. I believe he is far and away the best goalie in the league. He is capable of winning a series all by himself. If he can hold the Avalanche to 3 goals or less each game, the Jets will have a great chance of advancing.

The Avalanche goalie situation is the #1 question mark the club is facing. Georgiev has struggled all season and has looked terrible down the stretch of the regular season. For the record, I think Georgiev is replaced by Justus Annunen by game 3-4 of the series.

The Avalanche don’t need great goaltending. The club is so talented they can win with just “good” goaltending. If Georgiev or Annunen can post a .90 save percentage, I believe the Avalanche win the series.

Who Am I Picking? This series could go either way, but I’m picking the Avalanche in 7.
