It’s Time to Get Excited About the UFL

Are you a serious football fan who dreads the day after the Super Bowl, counting down the days until the season begins again? The United Football League (UFL) will now fill that void!

The UFL will begin play in late March 2024. What exactly is the UFL? For those that aren’t familiar, the UFL is a league created through the merger of the XFL and USFL. The inaugural season will include a 10-week regular season and playoffs. Eight teams will make up the league (4 in the XFL division and 4 in the USFL division)

Here are the teams for the inaugural season:

XFL Division: D.C. Defenders, San Antonio Brahmas, Arlington Renegades, and the St. Louis Battlehawks

USFL Division: Birmingham Stallions, Michigan Panthers, Memphis Showboats, and Houston Roughnecks

Let’s be clear here – The UFL will not compete talent wise with the NFL. But I have a gut feeling that the league will be entertaining to watch. There have been several examples of spring football players who have gone on to make the NFL and even a few who have made NFL Pro Bowl Appearances.

Coming Up – Authority Athletics will look at the UFL rules and how they differ from the NFL.
