It’s Time for Another Early Playoff Exit

I recently wrote about how I believe the Toronto Maple Leafs would be eliminated in the first round of the NHL Playoffs. When I wrote that article, I assumed the Maple Leafs would be taking on the Florida Panthers.

Well, it turns out that the Maple Leafs will instead be facing the Boston Bruins in the first round of the playoffs. I do believe that the Leafs match up better against the Bruins then they do with the Panthers, but it doesn’t change my prediction at all. I still believe the Leafs will be eliminated in the first round.

Auston Matthews had an incredible season – I mean the guy had 69 goals! But I don’t Matthews by himself can lead the team to victory over the Bruins. You see, the Bruins play as a complete group. When they lost Bergeron and Krejci to retirement everybody assumed they would be on the decline. Nope, they just kept on ticking. As a group they are stronger than Matthews and whoever else decides to show up for the Leafs.

The Maple Leafs have serious question marks on their club. I don’t trust their goaltending at all. Goaltending is a major strength for the Bruins as they have two goaltenders capable of leading their team deep in the playoffs.

I believe in the Leafs enough to predict that the series goes seven games, but I’m taking the Bruins to move on to the second round. My prediction for a star of the series is whoever the Bruins decide to put in the net, Linus Ullmark or Jeremy Swayman.
