Let’s continue our search for a new 2nd line center for the Colorado Avalanche. Authority Athletics already discussed superstars Elias Lindholm and Trevor Zegras as potential replacements for Ryan Johansen. Let’s turn our attention to some players who aren’t quite on that same tier – starting with Anthony Beauvillier of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Anthony Beauvillier was recently acquired by the Chicago Blackhawks from the Vancouver Canucks for a 5th round pick. The Blackhawks will likely look to flip Beauvillier to a contender in search of secondary scoring as the trade deadline approaches.

Beauvillier has struggled with inconsistency since leaving the New York Islanders as part of the Bo Horvat trade last season. However, Beauvillier passes the eye test. You can see the skating, the playmaking, and the skill when you watch him play. His play style would mesh very well with how the Avalanche like to play. Placing a player like Mikko Rantanen or Val Nichushkin on his wing may help provide stability and resurrect his career.

The best part of this potential deal is the low cost it would take to acquire Beauvillier. Due to his inconsistency, the Blackhawks may only be able to recoup the 5th round pick that they originally sent to the Vancouver Canucks. Make that pick a 3rd or 4th rounder or throw in a mid-level prospect and you may persuade the Blackhawks to retain some of Beauvillier’s remaining contract.

WHAT DO YOU THINK – WOULD BEAUVILLIER MAKE SENSE ON THE AVALANCHE?
