An In-Season Tournament Championship Banner?

About a month has passed since the NBA completed its inaugural In-Season Tournament. The Los Angeles Lakers were the winners of the tournament and celebrated like they won the NBA title complete with champagne, championship hats, and a banner raising ceremony.

What exactly did they win? Money, nothing else. The tournament means absolutely nothing. It doesn’t affect the future playoff seeding or bracket. It simply gave players who are likely already millionaires a cash bonus for winning. Oh, and bragging rights of course. However, I would venture to say that the majority of NBA players are only after the prize at the end of the year.

The In-Season Tournament is an entertaining idea for the fans. Everybody likes brackets and seeing all NBA teams involved is nice. But teams should not be celebrating tournament victories like they won an NBA title. It’s an absolute joke that a “championship banner” will be forever raised at Crypto.com Arena.
