A Sad Time to be a Mariners Fan

I have been a Mariners fan my entire life. I’ve followed the club through all the ups and downs – and let me tell you there has definitely been some down times. Over the past couple of seasons, my typically low expectations for the team have transformed into excitement and optimism. Could this team actually win it all?

The team seemed to be on their way. Contending for and even making the playoffs. A strong starting rotation and bullpen, good defense, and exciting young talent throughout the lineup. Maybe the Mariners are a bat away from truly contending. The future looked bright.

Then came this off-season…

The first move saw the Mariners trade away their starting 3rd baseman and fan favorite – Eugenio Suarez. 22 home runs and 96 RBI’s gone! That wasn’t all though. The club then decided to ship away Marco Gonzales, Evan White, and Jarred Kelenic in a pure salary dump to the Braves for a pitching prospect. Kelenic has been a highly touted prospect for both the Mets and Mariners. Instead of continuing his development, the club decides to ship him out where he will likely transform into a solid big leaguer and potential all-star. Let us not forget the Mariners are unlikely to re-sign right fielder Teoscar Hernandez – another 26 home runs and 93 RBI’s gone!

Who knows what’s next…my expectations are once again low.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE MARINERS OFF-SEASON SO FAR?

  1. At least I don’t have to worry about missing Mariners games once hockey season starts in October every year. I guess the club thinks winning a World Series is overrated.
