Authority Athletics has discussed several proposed changes to NHL rules that we believe would enhance the game. You can read those articles here:

Let’s Make Some Rule Changes in the NHL / The NHL Should Adopt PWHL Penalty Killing!

Now, we turn our attention to penalties at the end of an NHL game. Currently, if a player takes a penalty with 1 minute left in the game, the clock simply counts down and expires. So, what exactly is stopping players from hooking or tripping when the game is on the line with 15 seconds left. A face-off in the offensive zone with 15 seconds left is not enough of a deterrent.

Here is our proposal: All penalties occurring with two minutes or left must be served in their entirety. For example, if your team takes a penalty with 30 seconds left in the game, the game would continue for an additional 90 seconds after regulation. This would prevent the holding, hooking, and tripping that so often occur at the end of regulation in a tight game.

Would you be in favor of this rule change?
