Authority Athletics previously discussed why the Avalanche should cut ties with Ryan Johansen. Up first on possible replacements: Elias Lindholm.
The Calgary Flames are in a tough situation – either trade Lindholm prior to the trade deadline or risk losing him for nothing. With the uncertainty of the situation, my bet is that Lindholm is traded. Maybe the Avalanche swoop in and pry Lindholm from the Flames.
Lindholm would fit perfectly with the Avalanche. He skates well and plays a solid 200 ft game. In fact, he is viewed as one of the better 2-way Centers in the entire league. Lindholm is having somewhat of a down year with 7 goals and 12 assists through the first 30 games. However, he has been a point per game player in the past. He would likely blossom when surrounded with the talent that the Avalanche possess.
The problem for the Avalanche is what it would take to acquire Lindholm in a trade. Would Calgary trade Lindholm for a prospect such as Oskar Olausson and a 1st round pick? I think it would likely take more. Even if the Avs were to acquire Lindholm, they certainly wouldn’t be able to afford to keep him next season with their salary cap constraints. But the Avs are cup or bust and if Lindholm pushes them over the top it would be well worth it!
WHAT DO YOU THINK? WOULD ELIAS LINDHOLM MAKE SENSE ON THE AVALANCHE?
