With baseball season officially underway, let’s look at some of the players who should bring home some hardware this year. These are the players we think will win awards in the American League.

As a reminder, we already predicted who is going to win each division – You can read those articles here: AL West / AL East / AL Central / NL West / NL East / NL Central.

Most Valuable Player

I’m giving my vote to Julio Rodriguez. I think the Mariners win the AL West this year and Rodriguez is a big reason why. I’m looking for him to finish with 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases while also playing sound defensive baseball.

The top contender to Rodriguez is Yankees slugger Juan Soto. Soto will be hitting in front of Aaron Judge. As a result, he should get plenty of quality pitches to hit. You don’t want to put somebody on base in front of the best home run hitter of his time, right?

Cy Young

Corbin Burnes wins this one in my opinion. Burnes already has a Cy Young on his resume, and I think he earns his 2nd this year. Burnes has struck out at least 200 batters in each season since 2021. Backed by the quality offense in Baltimore, Burnes should put up a solid win total while leading the American League in strikeouts.

Who takes 2nd in Cy Young voting? I’m saying George Kirby. Kirby throws a ton of strikes and has excellent control. Once again, I think the Mariners are going to have a special season and Kirby will rack up several wins and Cy Young votes along the way.

Rookie of the Year

So many great rookies to choose from. I’m taking Evan Carter. For me, Carter barely beats out teammate Wyatt Langford. Carter in particular was outstanding last year in the postseason during the Rangers march to the World Series. I believe he continues that high level of play into the regular season. Carter and Langford finish 1st and 2nd in voting in my opinion. Another player worth considering is Jackson Holliday depending on when he winds up making his MLB debut.
