NBA All-Star weekend is officially over, and the league should be absolutely ashamed! The Eastern All-Stars were victorious over the Western All-Stars 211-186. Authority Athletics already wrote about how All-Star events in all major sports have lost their relevance. What happened over the weekend absolutely proves this point!
The game was nothing more than a glorified shoot around. There was literally zero defense! Zero! One wide open three after another. Players dribbling down the court just to throw up a shot from half court.
The league is recieving critism and rightfully so. Here’s what Kendrick Perkins had to say about the game via @ESPNNBA
“It was embarrassing and it was disrespectful to the game of basketball… To be an NBA All-Star, it’s an honor! I played 14 years and never made an All-Star Game.”
The league obviously needs to make some changes. They would be better off skipping all-star festivities altogether then put on another performance like this. Perhaps they could look at adopting what the NHL is doing next season. If you are not aware the NHL will not host an all-star game next season. Instead, they are hosting a 4-country face-off where the best players in the league will represent their countries in a tournament.
How would you fix the NBA All-Star game?
