Football is arguably surpassing baseball as America’s favorite sport. It seems like you can’t pass by two people without one of them wearing some sort of football apparel. Children everywhere dream of playing professional sports and perhaps football is at the top of the list. There’s nothing like a big hit or an unbelievable catch to make fans jump out of their seats. I need to say one thing about football though… enough with the celebrations!
With all the fanfare around football, the one thing that makes me want to turn off the TV the most is all the celebrating. It seems after EVERY…SINGLE…PLAY there is someone celebrating whatever accomplishment they felt was worthy of a solo bow.
Run 5 yards, celebrate. Make a tackle, celebrate. Heavens forbid you run for a first down and now I have to see a grown man making “feed me” motions with his hands. Well, I’ve been fed more than I can handle of these celebrations. Is it an attention thing? Maybe if you have enough time to dance, gloat, and have a personal celebration after seemingly every play, then perhaps, there is too much time in between plays.

You score a touchdown, you celebrate. Because that’s the point of the game, to score and win. Every other action is just you doing your job to help your team. I may be crazy, and you may disagree, but I say if you’re confident and competent in your abilities as an athlete then you should act like it’s no big deal when you do your job well. Act like you’ve been there before. Enough with the celebrations. Save the celebrations for the things that deserve celebrating…like scoring and winning. Otherwise, GET BACK TO THE HUDDLE AND DO IT AGAIN!
