The Vancouver Canucks have already bolstered their lineup for the stretch run by acquiring Elias Lindholm. Some reinforcements on the back end would also serve them well. Enter old friend, Chris Tanev!
Tanev will most definitely be on the move as the trade deadline approaches. The defenseman will be an unrestricted free agent at the conclusion of the season.
Canucks fans likely remember Tanev well. After all, he spent parts of 10 seasons with the organization. He is a dependable and tough to play against defenseman. The type of defenseman a team can’t get enough of! The Canucks already improved their defense earlier this season with the acquisition of Nikita Zadorov. Imagine a defense group comprised of Tanev, Zadorov, and Soucy. That’s a tough group for opposing teams to play against especially in the playoffs.
The only problem – the cost to acquire Tanev might be too much for the Canucks. Several teams around the league would kill for an experienced and dependable defenseman, i.e. the Maple Leafs. However, if the Canucks are truly all-in this season, they should look to pursue Tanev.
