The Canucks made a substantial move recently by acquiring Elias Lindholm from the Calgary Flames. The move demonstrated that the Canucks are all-in this year. As a result, they should continue to look at ways to bolster their lineup as they head into the back half of the season. So, who else is available?
Look no further than Vladimir Tarasenko. The Ottawa Senators will be sellers at this year’s trade deadline and Tarasenko is one of the proven pieces that they can move. The Canucks top 6 is already scary with the addition of Lindholm but imagine if the club can grab Tarasenko as well. A top 6 including Pettersson, Lindholm, Miller, Boeser, and Tarasenko would be electric.
Tarasenko might not be the same player he was years ago with the St. Louis Blues, but he would definitely still help out the Canucks. On the season, Tarasenko has 13 goals and 19 assists for a total of 32 points. If obtained by the Canucks, he would immediately drop into the top 6 and the 2nd powerplay unit.

So, what would it take to acquire Tarasenko? Tarasenko will be a free agent at the end of the season which should help drive down the price. Perhaps a 2nd or 3rd round pick and mid- level prospect gets the job done. It will likely take a bit more. The Canucks would also likely need to move on from Connor Garland to make the deal work, but Tarasenko should be looked at as a huge upgrade over Garland.
Many, including myself, will argue that the Canucks should instead bolster their blueline. Coming up Authority Athletics will look at some trade options on the back end.
