Authority Athletics recently started a series discussing the needs for the Vancouver Canucks as the trade deadline approaches. One need in particular was a top 6 forward to add depth and help round out scoring. They solved that issue in a big way by obtaining Elias Lindholm from the Calgary Flames!
Lindholm is viewed as one of the best two-way centers in the entire league and was likely the best player available in the trade market. This is a huge move for the Canucks who are now seen as legitimate contenders (if they weren’t already).
The Canucks top 6 forward group should be frightening for opposing teams led by Elias Petterson, J.T. Miller, Brock Boeser, and now Elias Lindholm. The cost didn’t come cheap, however. The Flames obtained Andrei Kuzmenko, defenseman Hunter Brzustewicz, defenseman Joni Jurmo, and a 2024 first-round pick from the Canucks.
The scary part is the Canucks still have some room in the cap to do more especially if they get creative. After acquiring Lindholm it is obvious the Canucks are all-in this season. In the next few days, we will look at some options the Canucks may consider as they look to continue to bolster their lineup.
